About Me

Vern Wolf started playing guitar in bands while still in High School in Northern NJ. During this time his band, The Thorns, appeared on the classic Zacherle TV Show.  In the early years after High School, he helped form a group called Eternal Rush that toured the East Coast for many years playing all types of rock music. Highlights included opening for Rare Earth, the Blues Magoos, and Don McLean (Bye Bye American Pie).

After playing with a few other bands, a long sabbatical followed during which he became enamored of the power and majesty of the bass and decided to continue where he left off, but trading the guitar for bass. He then studied for one year with famed bassist Juan Rivera of Chile and has studied music theory, composition, and bass guitar for  seven years with the renowned bassist and educator Marco Accattatis from Italy.

His musical resurrection began with the Southern Rock group FULL THROTTLE headed by guitarist Rich Barry.  After stints with a few Classic Rock bands, he finally settled into a group called THE FOSSIL FUEL BAND headed by well-known musician, and producer Steve Porcello.  The Fossil Fuel Band, founded in 2005 by Steve, played engagements throughout the tri-state area presenting select rock and blues tunes along with original material. After a 10-year run, the original Fossil Fuel Band disbanded in July, 2015.

After a year with the Boonton-based POWERVILLE Band, Vern was recruited in 2013 to play bass with a Bergen County-based classic rock bar band.  This group interpreted a wide range of classic rock, and blues covers,  playing throughout the Northern NJ area.  He left this group in August 2016.

In August, 2016, Vern joined the widely-acclaimed BLUE NORTH BAND based in Highland Lakes, NJ.   This powerful female and male fronted band performed a variety of classic and progressive rock tunes and gigged throughout Northern NJ and NY.  Bands covered included Black Sabbath,  Pink Floyd,  Vanilla Fudge,  Pat Benetar,  Govt. Mule,  and Susan Tedeschi.  In mid-2018, Vern and all original members left this band except for the founding member.

In May, 2018, Vern was delighted to join " 5 Equals 1", a Northern NJ-based band featuring both a male and female lead singer.    This band of exceptional musicians plays a very wide range of rock music  spanning the 70's through to current times and covers multiple rock genres.   This band has quickly become one of North Jersey's favorite party bands.

In September, 2019, Vern accepted an invitation to join the popular Morris County-based band "STONE THE PLANET."  This 4-piece band, led and managed by Jim Milo, lead guitarist and lead vocalist, plays a heavy mixture of Classic Rock tunes.  The band lineup also includes a female singer, saxist, guitarist.

Vern currently continues to gig with both "5 EQUALS 1" and "STONE THE PLANET".

Vern's musical inspiration comes from such bassists as Mel Schacher (Grand Funk), Tim Bogert (Vanilla Fudge),  Jack Bruce (Cream), Tommy Shannon (SRV), and Jaco Pastorius.

Scott's International Bass Academy located in London has accepted Vern as a life member..
